JABALPUR: Tension gripped MP’s Katni district on Tuesday after a Bajrang Dal functionary was shot dead by two unidentified men. In a shocking turn of events, the father of one of the suspected assailants allegedly died by suicide a few hours later after learning that his son could be linked to the killing.Sources said the suspect’s mother also tried to take her life by consuming a poisonous substance, but it was not confirmed. The murder took place around 10.30am in Kaimor police station area. The local police station in-charge and a head constable were removed from active duty in the wake of the killing. Eyewitnesses said the assailants, both masked, fired five to six rounds, hitting Rajak in the chest and head, before speeding off. Locals rushed Rajak to Vijayraghavgarh Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.The killing led to panic in the locality. Police teams and senior officers immediately rushed to the spot. Forensic experts collected the spent shells and tyre marks from the scene, while CCTV footage from nearby shops was being scanned to identify the shooters.Jabalpur IG Pramod Verma told TOI, “According to primary findings, nearly a month ago, there was some dispute between the suspects and the deceased, which possibly had something to do with the murder. Multiple police teams are carrying out searches to nab the suspects.” Verma confirmed that the Kaimor police station in-charge and a head constable were removed from active duty in light of the killing.
