Five bldgs incity to be madedisabled friendly

Lucknow: As part of its strategy to make the city accessible to the differently abled, the state govt will be converting five major buildings in Lucknow to be disabled-friendly. These include the Yojana Bhawan on Havelock Road, Sinchai Bhawan in Canal Colony, Cantt Road, District Employment Office in Lalbagh, Development Research, Evaluation and Experimentation and Training Division at Kalakankar House, Old Hyderabad, and SUDA Navchetna Kendra at 10 Ashok Marg.A govt spokesperson said that these buildings will get facilities like ramps, lifts, braille signage, wheelchair-friendly sanitary units, and special parking. The buildings were audited to determine what facilities can be provided there, and work will take place according to the reports. “Extensive use of Braille script will be ensured for the visually impaired, while sign language support and special alarm systems will be installed for the hearing impaired. This is a symbol of policy commitment to promote a dignified life for the disabled,” the official said.The work will be carried out under the second phase of Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, and Rs 12 crore has been approved for the work.
