Lucknow: Gosaiganj police on Sunday arrested a 45-year-old man, Umakant for allegedly cheating an ex-serviceman Rajesh Kumar Singh of Rs 23 lakh on the pretext of allotting him a plot of land, officials said.“Singh alleged that Umakant, along with his associates, took Rs 23 lakh from him, promising to provide a plot of land. However, when Singh started asking for his money back, Umakant claimed that the land was being acquired by the govt for the UPDA Defence Corridor project,” said Runwal. Police said the accused even produced forged documents to mislead the complainant. “Umakant was arrested from his home on Nov 2,” said police. TNN
