Cleric arrested for rape of a 14-year-old madrassa student in Bahraich | Lucknow News
Bahraich: A cleric has been accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student of a madrassa in Bahraich. According to police, a woman from a village in the Rupaidih area filed a complaint on Wednesday, accusing a madrassa teacher of raping her daughter on Dec 12. The victim studied at the madrassa in the same village. In her statement, the complainant alleged that the maulana called the girl to his room under the pretext of cleaning and then sexually assaulted her. At the time of the incident, no other students were present at the madrasa. The accused allegedly threatened the girl with dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone. Police have registered a case against the cleric under sections related to rape, criminal intimidation, and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. “Based on the complaint, the accused has been taken into custody, and interrogation is underway,” said deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Pahup Kumar Singh. tnn
