Lucknow: National Sports Day was celebrated with enthusiasm across the city on Friday, marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.At the soft launch of Sansad Khel Mahotsav at SAI NSRC, Lucknow, outstanding athletes of NCOE Lucknow were felicitated and a friendly tug of war energised the crowd.Rajya Sabha member Dinesh Sharma, former minister Kaushal Kishore, and Olympian Lalit Upadhyay were present.National Sports Day was celebrated with zeal at Excellia School with students taking part in various events, including 100m, 100x4m, long jump, tug of war and volleyball. Sports scientist of SAI Gaurav Singh gave prizes to winners.Samanvaya junior state women and men judo championships in Saharanpur honoured three judokas from Uttar Pradesh — Pragati, Lagan Lashkar, and Lavkush Kumar — for their national and international achievements.At GD Goenka Public School, students engaged in races, kho-kho, kabaddi, sports quiz and motivational sessions.Three-day Sports Mahotsav at SAI NSRC Lucknow from Aug 27-29 featured hockey, cricket, and volleyball competitions in which Neeraj Chopra House emerged as overall champion.
