‘BJP trying to rewrite Constitution sans Ambedkar’s name’ | Lucknow News
Lucknow: With atrocities and injustice rising under the BJP govt, feudal forces are out to rewrite the Indian Constitution after erasing Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s name from it, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav said on Wednesday.Akhilesh’s statement came hours after he tweeted on X a video of a group, allegedly led by a lawyer, who can be seen addressing a gathering somewhere in Madhya Pradesh where he claimed that Ambedkar did not write the Constitution but it was a public servant BN Rao (who was the constitutional advisor of the constituent assembly of India in 1950) who wrote it. In the video, he purportedly calls upon people to pay tribute to Rao on his death anniversary on Oct 30 and to “do away with Ambedkar’s existence”.Accompanying the video was a message from Akhilesh stating that “people associated with BJP wear masks and change their disguise to repeatedly attempt to rewrite the Constitution”.“SP’s PDA is committed to preserving the Constitution in its original form. Our constitution is our shield and life saver. If the lawyer (in the video) disapproves of the Indian Constitution so much, he should first give up his profession as lawyer and the wealth that he has accrued by practising as a lawyer where he used the provisions and penal code based on the Constitution,” he said.He posted another video on X in which a girl from Madhya Pradesh accused a BJP functionary of mowing down her father under his SUV and humiliating her when she tried to save him. Drawing parallel with Lakhimpur incident involving minister’s son Ashish Mishra who mowed down eight people during farmers protest in 2021, he said: “Be it UP’s Lakhimpur or MP, atrocities and injustice against the poor farmers, women and youth unleashed by BJP members is at its peak.“He said BJP was targeting the poor and the deprived in general and PDA community in particular not only in UP but in other states too.“The BJP leaders are not only mowing down farmers under the wheels of SUVs but are also out to dislodge them from their fields,” he said.He said the BJP wants to run the govt with a feudal approach as its ideology hates Ambedkar and the Constitution that he drafted. “The BJP wants to change the Constitution and do away with Amebdkar’s name. SP and PDA will not allow this,” he said.
