Big earnings as woman power mushrooms under Mission Shakti

Lucknow: Resident of Jindpura village in Shahjahanpur district, Neha Kashyap, not only ensured economic self-reliance but also ensured that of at least 10 other women. Kashyap heads Ekta self-help group, involved in mushroom cultivation and earns Rs 40,000-50,000 per month. Kashyap now plans to expand mushroom production to larger markets and connect more women to self-employment, thanking Mission Shakti programme for bringing change in her life.Kashyap started Ekta SHG under UP State Rural Livelihood Mission. Along with treasurer, Noorjahan and secretary, Maya Devi, she inspired 10 women to start small savings. “Even with limited resources, we can change our lives. Mushroom farming was a skill I possessed and the group embraced it. Financial support from the Startup Fund, Revolving Fund, CIF, and CCL gave wings to our dream,” she said. They started with a 42×36 ft farm, which cost the SHG Rs 30,000, to cultivate ‘Vatan’ and ‘Dhingri’ mushrooms. “Under Neha’s leadership, all 10 members of the Ekta Group have become successful entrepreneurs, expanding into goat rearing, zari and sewing. Success of SHGs in Nigohi development block demonstrates how Mission Shakti is transforming rural women’s lives,” said a govt spokesperson.
