Body of rape survivor’s kid exhumed for DNA match | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The body of a newborn was exhumed in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district Tuesday on the order of a local court for DNA sampling to match with its 16-year-old rape survivor mother.The girl had delivered a stillborn baby at Bahraich Medical College last month. As her condition was critical at the time, she was unable to explain how she had become pregnant. The family subsequently buried the baby in the village graveyard.After her condition improved, the minor told police that she had been raped by a local youth, lead to the pregnancy. Her family then lodged a complaint, prompting police to arrest the 21-year-old accused on July 23. A local court sent him to judicial custody.Bahraich SP R N Singh said the collected samples have been sent for DNA analysis. “The results will be submitted to the court to aid the ongoing legal proceedings,” he said.
