Domestic help, wife steal cash, jewellery worth Rs 1.5cr; invest in FDs, real estate | Lucknow News
Lucknow: A domestic help, aged around 40, and his wife were accused of stealing cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore from a residence in Metro City, Paper Mill Colony, Nishatganj, Lucknow.The domestic help, originally from a village in Bihar, was employed by the family for several years, gaining their trust over time. This trust allowed him to become aware of the cash and jewellery kept in the house. It is alleged that the duo systematically stole cash and jewellery over the time. When the homeowner got suspicious, he confronted the domestic help, who confessed to stealing Rs 50 lakh cash and jewellery valued at approximately Rs 1 crore. The accused admitted to depositing the stolen money in fixed deposits and purchasing jewellery worth approximately Rs 10 lakh. Additionally, he invested in real estate and transferred funds to the bank accounts of several acquaintances. He further revealed that he received guidance on managing the stolen funds from an acquaintance working at a bank, who advised him on opening fixed deposits and transferring money without detection. He also invested in various insurance policies. Fearing police action, the accused promised the homeowner to provide a detailed account of the stolen funds and their expenditure. However, the duo went missing on Aug 11, prompting the owner to register an FIR on late Sunday evening, said SHO Mahanagar Akhilesh Mishra.
