Lucknow: A section of Lucknow University students on Monday protested against the Supreme Court’s recent order on shifting stray dogs from public places to shelter homes in Delhi.During the on-campus protest, the students called for more humane solutions.Carrying placards that read ‘Freedom is a Basic Right — Even for Dogs’ and raising slogans, students demanded that the Delhi administration adopt animal-friendly measures such as food provisions, regular vaccination drives and proper shelters instead of displacement. Compassion and coexistence must guide policymaking, they said. Ali, an animal activist and student, said: “Instead of pushing strays away, we should work towards building a system where humans and animals coexist peacefully.” Muskan Kashyap, a student, said: “Vaccination, sterilization and awareness campaigns can ensure both public safety and animal welfare.
