Lucknow: Facing growing pressure to recover pending electricity dues, the Lucknow Central zone is preparing to disconnect power supply from Monday for smart prepaid meter consumers who are running on negative balance and fail to recharge their meters by Sunday.Superintending Eegineer (commercial), Lucknow Central Zone, Mukesh Tiwari, said that around 3,500 consumers currently have negative balances on their smart meters, with an average outstanding amount of Rs 8,000 each. In total, the department aims to recover nearly Rs 2.5 crore from these defaulters.“Consumers are advised to make at least a part payment by Sunday to ensure uninterrupted power supply,” he said.On Thursday, TOI had reported that more than 29 lakh smart prepaid meter users across Uttar Pradesh collectively owe Rs 904 crore, putting them at risk of sudden disconnection due to insufficient balance.
