Research non-negotiable in med world: CDRI director

Lucknow: Guest of Honour and director, CDRI, Radha Rangarajan, who is known for her transitional research and drug discovery, told the medical students that no matter how much one strives for excellence, there will be days when gaps take over.“It is in the narrow margins of these gaps that one can find the scope for research. There lies the opportunity to find better solutions to problems that caused the gaps,” she said in her address. Asserting that research was non-negotiable for medical students, she acknowledged the fast-changing world of medical science, which has been revolutionised because of the coming of artificial intelligence and machine learning. “You may feel or say that there is too much to catch up and manage… but in this turmoil lies the opportunity for collaboration and the chance to create an impact,” she said. She concluded on the note that the future will have centres of translational research, joint clinical trials, shared training programmes, and cross-disciplinary fellowships that empower the next generation of physician-scientists, biomedical innovators, and translational researchers.
