Lucknow: Three people were killed and six others sustained serious injuries after a speeding trailer overturned and triggered a multi-vehicle collision in Pakwa Inar town in Kushinagar on Wednesday afternoon.The accident took place when the trailer driver swerved sharply to save an elderly man crossing the road, smashing through the divider and landing in the opposite lane. According to eyewitnesses, the trailer, en route from Tamkuhiraj to Gorakhpur, climbed over the median in an attempt to avoid hitting the elderly pedestrian. It rammed into another trailer coming from the opposite direction and overturned across the highway. A tractor, an e-rickshaw carrying seven passengers, and a motorcycle following behind crashed into the overturned vehicle, leaving passengers scattered on the road. Panic ensued as locals rushed to rescue the victims. Police and five units of the 108 ambulance service reached the spot, shifting nine injured persons to Kasya CHC. Doctors declared one youth dead on arrival. Seven critically injured were referred to the Padrauna Medical College, where two more e-rickshaw passengers succumbed. A motorcycle rider continues to receive treatment in Kasya. The deceased were identified as Keshav Rajbhar (21) of Sahodar Patti village in Deoria, Ramvilas (58) of Kushinagar, and one yet to be identified victim. The injured include Ajay Singh (46), Chandan Kumar (25), Shiv Kumari (42), Lakshmi (16), Kajal Singh (16), and another unidentified person. Most suffered severe head and leg injuries. Dr Markandey Chaturvedi, in charge of Kasya CHC, confirmed that one victim was brought dead and another died en route to the district hospital, while a third passed away at the medical college during treatment.
