DRI Seizes Rs 12.7 Crore Hydroponic Cannabis at Lucknow Airport

LUCKNOW: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 12.7 kg of high-grade cannabis worth approximately Rs 12.7 crore at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport.DRI sleuths intercepted three Indian nationals on Monday who arrived from Thailand on Flight FD-146. During examination of their checked-in baggage, officials found multiple vacuum-sealed packets containing a greenish, lumpy substance. Field tests confirmed it to be cannabis. Officials said the contraband appears to be hydroponic cannabis—a variety cultivated without soil using nutrient-rich water in controlled indoor environments. Known for its high potency, this type of cannabis is in demand in illicit drug markets. The passengers were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.With this seizure, total narcotics recovered at Lucknow airport in the past six months has crossed 75 kg, including multiple consignments of high-grade cannabis and other substances.
