As the buzz around ‘Coolie’ reaches fever pitch ahead of its grand Independence Day release, details of the film’s cast and crew remuneration have surfaced.According to a report by Deccan Herald, Rajinikanth, who headlines the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial, has reportedly secured a staggering Rs 200 crore for his role. Originally set to receive Rs 150 crore, the superstar’s fee was revised upwards following the unprecedented surge in advance bookings.
Aamir Khan’s gesture wins hearts
One of the most striking revelations is about Bollywood icon Aamir Khan, who makes a brief but significant appearance in ‘Coolie’. While early reports suggested a Rs 20 crore fee, reports say that he charged nothing for the role. Aamir is said to have accepted the part purely out of affection and admiration for Rajinikanth.
Big cheques for key players
The rest of the ensemble has also been rewarded handsomely. Telugu star Nagarjuna Akkineni, portraying Simon, reportedly earned Rs 10 crore, while veteran actor Sathyaraj and Kannada icon Upendra each took home Rs 5 crore. Shruti Haasan, playing the female lead, received Rs 4 crore.
Behind the scenes, Lokesh Kanagaraj, credited with steering some of Tamil cinema’s biggest recent blockbusters, was paid Rs 50 crore to helm ‘Coolie’, keeping his flawless hit streak intact. Music director Anirudh Ravichander, whose soundtrack is already topping charts, received Rs 15 crore for his work.Meanwhile, ‘Coolie’ is surely the next big thing that is happening in the Tamil cinema, or indeed in Indian cinema. With good trailer and song like ‘Monica’, ‘Coolie’ has generated good amount of hype among the audiences. On the other hand, even though there are fans for the film, ‘War 2’ is comparatively generating low buzz among the south audiences, even with the inclusion of the ‘RRR’ actor Jr. NTR. But the overall buzz is high for both films.
