Woman kidnaps newborn from hosp, cops rescue within 24 hrs | Lucknow News
Lucknow: In her quest for a baby boy to complete her family, a 30-year-old widowed woman, mother of three young daughters, abducted a one-day-old baby boy from the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the Autonomous State Medical College in Ravindranagar, Kushinagar, on Wednesday.The newborn, barely a day old, was rescued within 24 hours after an intense and sleepless search by police teams. The woman who took him is still on the run. Police said the accused woman, still struggling with the death of her husband and haunted by the thought that her family would never be “complete” without a boy, walked into the SNCU like any ordinary visitor. Spotting a gap in supervision, she quietly lifted the newborn from his warmer, wrapped him in a cloth, and slipped out of the ward—no alarms, no raised voices, no one noticing. The baby born on Nov 25 was admitted to the SNCU on doctors’ advice. Based on his father’s statement, an FIR was registered against CMS/principal Dr Ritesh Singh, Indra Singh, duty in-charge nurse Indra Singh, staffers Sneha, Urmila, Julie, Anarkali, and the guard Dharmendra Singh under BNS section 97 (kidnapping a child under 10 years). Kushinagar SP Keshav Kumar said, “After scanning nearly 150 cameras, we finally caught a fleeting image—a woman rushing out of the hospital with the baby. She vanished into a nearby village.” After nearly 20 hours of search, the baby was found, frail, but safe. “The woman abandoned her home and fled once she realised officers were closing in. Multiple teams are now tracking her movements,” said the SP.
