Lucknow: The State Mission for Clean Ganga, Uttar Pradesh (SMCG-UP) will be organising Ganga Utsav 2025 in all 75 districts of the state on Tuesday.The event will be held to mark the day in 2017 when Ganga was declared India’s National River.A govt spokesperson said that district Ganga committees in all 75 districts have been tasked with organising the events. Programmes will include folk music, art exhibitions, painting, essay writing, quiz competitions, cleanliness campaigns and community events.“The main objective of this festival is to promote conservation of the Ganga, highlight its cultural and spiritual significance and strengthen cleanliness and public awareness. On this occasion, cleanliness campaigns, community programmes, workshops and seminars on topics like river conservation, biodiversity and sustainable lifestyle, will also be organised,” the official said. The main event of this year will be held at Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya Awadh University in Ayodhya on Nov 5. This programme will feature details of efforts being made by the District Ganga Committee on cleaning the river, interaction with Ganga Praharis and cultural programmes.Earlier, SMCG-UP conducted ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ from Sept 17 to Oct 2 and a special cleanliness campaign from Oct 2 to Oct 31. Govt had set a campaign of reaching out to more than 20,000 school children in each district through these campaigns, in order to sensitise them towards the spirit and responsibility of Ganga conservation. Similar programmes are carried out each year.“All District Ganga Committees have prepared the framework for the Ganga Utsav programme ,” the official added.
