LUCKNOW: This Raksha Bandhan was special for BSP MLA from Ballia’s Rasra, Umashankar Singh, as party supremo Mayawati tied a rakhi on his wrist.“Outside her family, Behenji has tied a rakhi only to Lalji Tandon. I may be the second fortunate one,” said Singh, BSP’s sole MLA in the UP Assembly. Mayawati had earlier declared Lalji Tandon, the late BJP functionary, as her “sworn brother.” Within her family, she has a younger sibling, Anand Kumar, who is also the party’s vice-president. “I had told Behenji two days ago that I would come on Raksha Bandhan, and when I reached her place, I saw she had all the preparations in place for me. It was the true blessing of an elder sister,” said Singh. When asked what gift he gave his “elder sister,” Singh said, “My gift was my promise to her that I am not going anywhere from here. I will always stay with her and with this party.”
