Mayor slams officials for pending projects

Lucknow: The executive committee (EC) meeting of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Thursday ended without any decision once again with Mayor Sushma Kharakwal criticising the civic administration for not acting on resolutions passed earlier.Several proposals cleared by the EC and the LMC House remain pending. EC approvals awaiting action include the removal of illegal encroachments, transfer of eight health dispensaries, creation of vending zones and parking areas and the redevelopment of the Transport Nagar landfill. Other pending works are licencing battery rickshaws, setting up pet carcass disposal and building a women’s toilet in Nakkhas Bazar. The House has also approved projects such as a Kalyan Mandap in Alamnagar, park renaming, tax reliefs and memorial installations, but none have progressed, along with stalled plans under the Amrit 2.0 project.Presiding over the meeting, the Mayor said officials have ignored decisions taken by the EC and the House, wasting both public money and the time of elected representatives. She said basic issues like sanitation, street lighting, waterlogging, road repairs and encroachments continue to be overlooked. The Mayor also objected to the way the revised budget was handled, saying it was sent by mail instead of being discussed with officials. “The budget is not a formality; it sets the city’s direction,” she said. She announced that no new EC meeting will be called until the administration carries out earlier decisions. “Public representatives are the voice of the people; ignoring them means ignoring the citizens of Lucknow,” she added.
