Lucknow: The five accused allegedly involved in a conspiracy to raise ‘Mujahideen Army’ to enforce Sharia rule through violent jihad have been sent to 8 days of police custody.According to Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), the FIR was registered on Sept 29 at the ATS police station in Lucknow. Acting on intelligence inputs, the agency arrested four accused — Akmal Raza Safeel Salmani alias Ali Rajvi, Mohammad Tausif and Qasim Ali. On Sept 30, the ATS apprehended the alleged mastermind of the group — Mohammad Raza from Mallapuram in Kerala. The ATS investigation revealed that the group was attempting to procure arms and recruit individuals for the so-called Mujahideen Army. It also circulated extremist propaganda materials and explored ways to mobilise funds for its operations. The ATS produced all five accused before the ATS/NIA Special Court in Lucknow, which granted eight days of police custody remand from Oct 7 to facilitate further interrogation and recovery of evidence related to their network, funding sources, and external links. Officials said the accused are being questioned regarding their connections with radical outfits and online handlers suspected of operating from other states and abroad.
