TMC-backed goons attacked BJP MP, says RS MP Brij Lal

Lucknow: BJP MP Brij Lal on Monday condemned the brutal attack on party MP Khagen Murmu in Nagrakata area in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri where he had gone to oversee rescue and relief works following heavy rains and landslides. “What was his fault? He went there to provide relief to the flood-affected people, whose crops have been destroyed and who are starving. The TMC govt in Bengal seems indifferent to their plight,” said Brij Lal. Lal, a former UP DGP, alleged the attack was orchestrated on the instructions of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, who, according to him, could not tolerate the BJP’s efforts to provide aid. “Mamata Banerjee talks about ‘Maati and Manush’ (soil and people), but she seems to care for neither,” said the Rajya Sabha MP. The BJP MP accused the TMC of turning Malda, Murmu’s constituency, into a hub for anti-national activities. “The attackers were Bangladeshis, who form Mamata’s vote bank,” Lal alleged, adding that these individuals are provided with identity documents on crossing the border into India.Brij Lal said people will vote out the “unethical and oppressive” TMC govt. “BJP will not be intimidated by Mamata’s tyranny. The people of Bengal are yearning for change, and this attack will be the final nail in the coffin of the TMC govt,” he added. He urged BJP workers and leaders in Bengal to remain steadfast in their resolve to bring about change. Khagen Murmu, a two-time MP, sustained head injuries in the attack and was hospitalised.
