'Go back home': Woman delivers in Haridwar's hospital waiting area; doctor fired after refusing admission

HARIDWAR: A female doctor at a women’s hospital in Haridwar was terminated from service on Wednesday after a woman was forced to deliver her baby in the waiting area. The doctor was on duty and allegedly refused to admit the woman in hospital.The woman, a resident of Brahmpuri, alleged that Dr Saloni Panthi, a contractual doctor at the hospital, behaved rudely and declined to admit her despite severe labour pains on Monday night.Following an inquiry, the hospital administration terminated Dr Saloni’s services for misconduct. The chief medical officer (CMO) of Haridwar, Dr RK Singh, also made an adverse entry against the staff nurse on duty at the time. Both mother and child are safe.According to the administration, the woman, Putul, wife of a daily wager from Brahmpuri colony, was experiencing labour pains when she was brought to hospital.

The on-duty doctor reportedly refused admission, saying the due date had not yet arrived, and asked the family to go back home. Putul eventually gave birth in the waiting ward.A video of the incident was widely circulated on social media, prompting the CMO to set up an inquiry. CMO Singh said, “Due to Dr Saloni’s misconduct, her contract has been terminated immediately, and an adverse entry was made against the nursing staff on duty during the incident.”
