KGMU performs minimally invasive uterine cancer surgery | Lucknow News

Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Tuesday performed a special surgery for the first time using a new minimally invasive technology. In this surgery, doctors removed the uterus, both ovaries, and fallopian tubes, and also checked important lymph nodes in a patient with uterine cancer.The new technology, called the ICG-enabled laparoscopic immunofluorescence system, was installed in the gynaecological oncology department last month. It helps doctors see the lymph nodes more clearly during surgery, making cancer treatment more accurate. Patients also benefit from smaller cuts, lesser pain, faster recovery, and safer treatment.Prof Nisha Singh of the gynaecological oncology department said, “We performed our first case of laparoscopic sentinel lymph node biopsy along with laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy in a patient with uterine cancer using this new system. This step will also help train medical students and young surgeons, giving them hands-on experience with modern cancer surgery techniques.”
