Lucknow: Growing consciousness for sustainable fashion was driving youth towards the use of khadi, stated weavers and artisans who attended the UP ITS 2025.Calling khadi a ‘fabric close to nature’, they said that demand for handmade khadi fabric was increasing in international markets as well. Speaking on the sidelines of the Khadi fashion show held during UPITS, they said that schemes like One District One Product (ODOP) and Vishwakarma Shramik Samman rolled out by the UP govt have empowered thousands of artisans and weavers. An official spokesperson said that the govt was now aiming to position UP as a khadi handloom hub. Citing CM Yogi Adityanath, the spokesperson said: “Khadi is a symbol of self-reliance, craftsmanship, and sustainable development—demonstrating that local crafts can build a strong international identity for the state.”
