Lucknow: The state-level event marking the death anniversary of Manyawar Kanshi Ram is not a rally, but a Shraddha Suman Karyakram — a solemn tribute to the late leader who founded the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on April 14, 1984. BSP cadres are reaching out to citizens at the booth level to mobilise participation and emphasize the commemorative nature of the programme. “The programme is much bigger than the rally or the public meeting held during elections. It is also after almost ten years that Behenji will hold a state-level programme like this at the Kanshi Ram memorial,” said a party cadre. The last time party national president Mayawati paid tributes to Kanshi Ram at Manyawar Shri Kanshi Ram Ji Smarak Sthal (Eco Garden) in Lucknow was in 2016. After that, she chose to pay tributes to Kanshi Ram on his death anniversary at her home, while the party men organised a programme at Eco Garden.“Because the memorial was under renovation all this while, we were never allowed to reach the statue of Kanshi Ram Ji. The programme was always organised outside the main complex. After Behenji’s announcement of the state-level programme at the memorial, even the administrative machinery has come into action and senior govt officials have visited the place,” said a party functionary.The party has booked Ramabai rally ground as accommodation for party workers and others visiting Lucknow a day or two ahead of the programme. The party workers have collectively donated over Rs 10 lakh for the place and another Rs 2.5 lakh for the Eco Garden. “Had it been a rally, the party would have arranged for transportation of people. But as it is a programme to pay tributes to Kanshi Ram Ji, party leaders and workers from across the state will come on their own,” said sources in the party.Meanwhile, the ten-member organising committee, constituted by Mayawati to oversee arrangements for the programme, inspected the venue. “Because the party organisation has been revamped, the cadre strength of the party has increased. All arrangements for have been done through the contributions by party workers, and followers,” said sources.
