Man gets life term within 15 days for stepdaughter’s rape | Lucknow News
Lucknow: In a landmark judgment under the Mission Shakti Phase-5 and Operation Conviction, a special Pocso court in Ghazipur on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape of his minor stepdaughter. The verdict was delivered within just 15 days of charges being framed, marking one of the swiftest convictions under the zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children.The case was reported on July 20, when the victim’s mother filed a complaint at Shadiabad police station. An FIR was registered under Section 65(2) of BNS and relevant provisions of the Pocso Act. The accused, Ashok Banvasi of Sarai Gokul village, was arrested the next day. Investigating officer SI Shyamji Yadav conducted a prompt probe, collecting strong forensic and oral evidence that led to the filing of the chargesheet on Aug 27.Recognising the seriousness of the crime, the court expedited the trial, fixing daily hearings. On Friday, the court pronounced its verdict and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Ghazipur SP Iraj Raja said: “The case was admitted by the court on Sept 9 and charges were framed in the next three days.”The conviction was achieved through effective coordination between Shadiabad police, monitoring cell, and prosecution team. ADGC Prabhu Narayan Singh led the legal proceedings while head constable Dashrath Lal Bind, court Moharrir HC Ram Pratap Mishra, and monitoring cell in-charge SI Jamuna Prasad played key roles in ensuring time-bound action.
