UP man headed to Mumbai mistakenly boards wrong train, dies after jumping off at Salempur station | Lucknow News
NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old man tragically died after jumping from a moving train he had mistakenly boarded at Salempur railway station on Thursday night, police said. The deceased, identified as Sanjay Prasad, was a resident of Rewali village under the Lar police station limits. He worked as a labourer with a private company. Prasad was leaving for Mumbai on Thursday night after spending around four months at home and his brother took him to Salempur railway station, police said to news agency PTI. According to officials, Prasad had been dropped off at the station by his brother. In a mix-up, he boarded a Barhaj-bound local train instead of his scheduled train to Mumbai. Realising the mistake only after the train began moving towards the Barhaj section, he attempted to jump off while it was picking up speed. However, he lost balance during the jump, fell on the tracks, and was fatally run over, police said. Station House Officer of Salempur, Sunil Kumar Patel, confirmed that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination and further proceedings are underway.(With agency inputs)
