‘Cow smugglers gotprotection in SP rule’

Lucknow: UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary on Wednesday attacked Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of giving ‘full protection’ to cow smugglers during the SP regime.“Illegal slaughterhouses operated openly across the state. Cows were handed over to butchers. Today, when the BJP govt is eliminating them the SP is getting restless. The SP is willing to go to any extent to appease Muslims,” he said. Chaudhary’s attack came hours after Akhilesh questioned the police encounter with cattle smugglers in Gorakhpur. Abdul Rahim, an alleged cattle smuggler who was also wanted in connection with the murder of a NEET aspirant Deepak Gupta, sustained bullet injuries in legs in retaliatory firing by police. The UP BJP chief said that in the Gorakhpur case, the Yogi govt took action within 24 hours and arrested the cow smuggler. UP minister and former UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh, too, slammed Akhilesh, accusing him of having turned UP into a safe haven for criminals during his regime. “The state had became a den of goons and mafias. Bullies and thugs were treated with respect, flown around in helicopters and were allowed to seize land of the poor,” he said. Singh said that under the Yogi govt, illegal assets worth Rs 20,000 crore have been seized. During the SP regime, riots occurred in Muzaffarnagar, Bareilly, Moradabad and Meerut. “Today, under BJP rule, the rule of law prevails and criminals are fleeing the state,” he said. The minister accused the SP of using fake voter IDs and booth capturing. He said that under BJP rule, voter lists are transparent and elections are fair. Singh said that during SP rule, recruitment was done by taking bribes. “Transfers and postings became an industry. Today, under BJP rule, more than 8.5 lakh govt recruitments have been made transparently,” he said.
