AHMEDABAD: A farmer’s inter-caste marriage triggered a violent kidnapping of his wife that has now gone viral on social media. A complaint was filed with Dehgam police on Sunday.Ravi Patel, a 23-year-old resident of Dehgam, alleged in his complaint that his wife, Ayushi Rabari, was abducted by her relatives and their aides after she refused to return with them.The viral video shows Ayushi pleading with her relatives not to take her away while her in-laws try to stop them.According complaint filed by Patel, he lives with his wife Ayushi and his family at their home in Dehgam’s Shahi Kutir Society. He stated that he and his wife belong to different castes and were in a relationship for about a year and a half before marrying with mutual consent through court registration.“After our court marriage, we spent about four months travelling together and later moved to Dehgam, where we have been living with my family for the last two months,” Ravi told police.On the day of the incident, at around 2.30 pm, Ayushi’s maternal relatives arrived at the house armed with sticks and accompanied by other men in multiple vehicles — a black scooter, a white SUV, and a black SUV. The group included Kanaji Rabari (resident of Kali village), Keval Rabari (resident of Rabari ni Muvadi, Dehgam), Daksh Rabari and Govind Rabari (residents of Rabari Vas, Dehgam), and three unidentified men.“They shouted outside the house asking where Ayushi was and demanded that we hand her over,” Ravi told police. Ayushi resisted, shouting that she did not want to go with them.Despite her protests, the men barged into the house with sticks, broke the door, and dragged Ayushi outside. When Ravi and his family — including his parents and brother — tried to stop them, they were beaten with sticks. Ayushi was then forced into the white SUV and driven away.Ravi immediately called police on 112, after which he filed a complaint at Dehgam police station. A case of kidnapping, criminal trespassing, voluntarily causing hurt, and unlawful assembly under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered, however, Ayushi remained untraceable.
