Lucknow: A festive spirit filled the air at 1090 Gomtinagar on Sunday morning as thousands laced up their shoes to kick off Season 6 of the SBI Green Marathon. The city came alive with the energy of over 4,600 participants, from fitness enthusiasts to families and Army personnel, united by a shared purpose—running for a healthier, greener tomorrow.The marathon was flagged off by State Bank of India officials, including chief general manager Dipak Kumar De, general managers Rajeev Kumar and Kaushalendra Kumar, DGM & CDO Dhirendra Mahe, along with Pooja Gulati, national director IP Solutions at Mirchi, and Major General Salil Seth, GOC MUPSA, marking start of a 17-city journey under the ‘Run for a Greener India’ theme.Sustainability remained central to the event. Runners received organic T-shirts, plantable BIBs and cloth goodie bags, while for the first time in an Indian marathon, participants were provided black alkaline water to aid hydration. Under 5Km, 10Km and 21Km categories, the AIMS-certified event welcomed both first-timers and seasoned athletes. The scenic route reflected city’s blend of heritage and modernity. Waste management partner Skrap ensured post-event recycling, reinforcing the green ethos.Radio Mirchi RJs Alok and Khushboo engaged the crowd, keeping the atmosphere lively until the finishing line. From its cheerful start to warm hospitality at the end, the marathon set the tone for a nationwide movement toward fitness and sustainability.
