Clerical error led to selection of wrong candidate

Lucknow: A clerical error during the recent recruitment of medical teachers at Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute resulted in a candidate who did not attend the interview being mistakenly listed as selected. The issue came to light following a complaint and subsequent probe. The institute had advertised 96 teaching positions, receiving nearly 150 applications from across the country. Interviews were held in the last week of Aug and on Sept 4, a list of 17 selected candidates was released, including six positions in the anesthesia department. During the review, it was found that three candidates with the same first name had applied. Due to a clerical mistake, the wrong name appeared instead of the candidate who had actually attended the interview. The incorrect appointment letter has been cancelled. Following the findings, executive secretary Dr Sharad Singh was relieved of his duties, and an inquiry ordered. Dr Ayush Lohia, head of the community medicine department, has been appointed as the new executive secretary. Director Dr MLB Bhatt described the incident as unfortunate and said the corrected list will be released after proper verification.
