310 Kashi drivers trained to enrich tourist experience

Lucknow: The UP tourism department’s four-day training programme for auto, taxi and bus drivers in Varanasi concluded on Wednesday. The aim of the effort was to empower frontline stakeholders in tourism.The training covered modules on heritage storytelling, first aid and CPR, road safety, UPI-based digital transactions, tourist sensitisation and personality development. In all, 310 drivers were trained, including 19 female participants. Rashmi Singh, a participant, said: “I not only learnt about first aid and digital payments but also how to make tourists feel safe and welcome.”The Heritage Storytelling module emerged as a highlight, equipping drivers with captivating stories of Kashi and Sarnath to enrich the cultural depth of every journey. By turning ordinary rides into immersive experiences, the initiative strengthens UP’s reputation for hospitality and heritage.Tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh lauded the initiative, calling it “a transformative step that connects community participation with UP’s tourism growth story.”Principal secretary, tourism and culture, Mukesh Meshram, said: “Kashi and its surroundings are witnessing a tourism boom. From pilgrims to international travellers, expectations are rising. Through structured trainings, the department is ensuring safe and culturally enriching journeys, placing visitor experience at the core.”
