Viksit UP 2047 goal to lead nation, world in agri, exports

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh being largest producer of wheat and sugarcane in the country, state govt will focus on further development of agriculture and its allied sectors to meet its goal of a Viksit UP by 2047.Using innovation and technology, state govt wants to ensure that by 2030, UP is first in country in crop productivity and by 2047, it has highest crop productivity globally, at par with Mexico, China, France and the US. In agricultural export, plan is to make UP first in country by 2030 and among global leaders like Russia, Australia, and Canada in agri-exports.A govt spokesperson said a comprehensive strategy had been designed to advance agriculture sector over next 22 years. At heart of this vision is innovation and technology-driven growth in agriculture and allied fields. “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed combined progress in agriculture and industry would make UP growth engine of Viksit Bharat. The state aims to be not only a model for Indian farmers but also global benchmark in agriculture,” he said.In its vision document for Viksit UP-2047, govt identified key focus areas including storage and value addition, creation of processing infrastructure through mega food parks and cold chains, agricultural education, innovation and research, sustainable agriculture, expansion of scientific techniques and crop diversification.Giving examples of what was already achieved in agriculture over past eight years, the official said that before 2017, state was lagging in this sector with low agricultural production. Scientific technology was barely used, and farmers struggled to get fair prices for their produce, he said, adding that cold chains and food processing facilities were almost absent.“In past eight years, the scenario transformed and state govt has prioritised linking farmers with modern technology, strengthening mandi system, expanding storage and cold chain infrastructure and promoting FPO model. UP is now achieving remarkable growth in agricultural productivity and diversity,” he said.
