‘Imposing dual tax rates on paper unfair’

Lucknow: The Lucknow Paper Merchants’ Association has voiced serious concern over the GST Council’s recent decision to impose dual tax rates on HSN 4802 (paper), effective Sept 22. A delegation led by senior vice-president Sanjay Kabra, vice-president Manoj Tiwari, and members Vishnu Agarwal and Umesh Goyal met Uttar Pradesh finance minister Suresh Khanna, urging him to seek a review. They demanded that paper and exercise books be taxed uniformly to avoid confusion and misuse. As per the new rule, paper supplied for exercise book manufacturing will attract 0% GST, while the same paper for other purposes will draw 18%. Khanna assured that their concerns would be raised before the GST Council.
