Kapoorthala road likely to reopen in 2 days

Lucknow: Fifteen days after a massive road cave-in outside a sweets shop in Lucknow’s Kapoorthala created a huge crater, relief is finally on the horizon. The sinkhole, approximately 15 ft deep, was caused by a leak in an underground sewage line. The situation was worsened by optical fibre cable drilling that accidentally ran through a manhole, leading to the collapse. Now, with the damaged sewage line successfully repaired, work is underway to restore the road. Sand filling is currently in progress, and officials expect the road to reopen for traffic within the next two days, restoring movement for nearly 10,000 vehicles daily. The repair is critical for residents of Aliganj Sectors B, C, D, and E, as well as Fatehpur village, Chandralok Colony, Purania and Indirapuram. The underground repair was undertaken by Suez India Pvt Ltd, contracted by LMC for sewage system maintenance. “We jacketed 6m of the damaged pipe and repaired the manhole. Diverting sewage water was one of the biggest challenges, which we managed with the help of multiple pumps and ROKA support. Heavy machinery, including hydra cranes and dewatering pumps, was deployed, and all safety SOPs were followed,” said Suez project director Rajesh Mathpal. Additional municipal commissioner Lalit Kumar said since the road falls under the jurisdiction of the PWD, the final layer of road surfacing will be carried out them.
