Lucknow: The state govt said on Monday it has stepped up efforts to save the sugarcane crop from flooding and disease.A state govt spokesperson said the officials, including deputy sugarcane commissioners of all the regions, district sugarcane officers, and sugar mill managers, have been asked to conduct field visits and establish communication with the farmers to save the sugarcane crop. Along with this, instructions have been given to spray and control the necessary medicines through drones. According to the sugarcane development department, spraying of medicines was done in about 24,218 hectares of sugarcane area using 329 drones.The official said due to heavy rains and subsequent waterlogging, the cane crop was affected in many areas. Due to this, rotting of cane roots, the effect of pests and diseases and wild animals increased. Currently, sugar mills are also providing light trap machines to farmers to protect them from diseases and pests.The department has suggested to farmers that in flood-affected areas, they should spray pesticides recommended by scientists on time to protect sugarcane crops from whitefly, pokka boing, root borer, top borer, red rot, and other harmful insects.
