90-yr-old woman, son found dead

Lucknow: Panic gripped Ravindrapalli area of the city on Sunday evening after a 90-year-old woman and her 65-year-old son were found dead under suspicious circumstances inside their residence. Police sent the bodies for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death, while neighbours raised suspicions of property-related foul play.The deceased were identified as Bela Chakraborty (90) and her son Asim Chakraborty (65). Bela had been with Asim in House No 96 in Ravindrapalli since the death of her husband, Prakash Chandra Chakraborty, a retired railway accountant.The family already faced multiple tragedies. Bela’s elder son, Amit Chakraborty, who worked as junior engineer in bridge corporation and his wife Chandrani, a stenographer in Sainik directorate, both passed away earlier. Her youngest son, Ranjit Chakraborty, also died some years ago. Bela’s household sustained on her late husband’s pension.According to police, construction workers at a nearby site first noticed Asim lying unconscious near the residence gate in the portico and alerted Ghazipur (Indiranagar) police. When police entered the house, they found Bela’s body on the sofa in the drawing room. Both were rushed to Lohia Institute, where doctors declared them dead.During inspection, police found several liquor bottles, packets of pan masala and other items from the scene. Forensic experts were called in to collect samples. ADCP East Pankaj Singh said no external injuries were found on the bodies, though both had turned blue, possibly by poisoning or suffocation. “The exact cause of death will be established only after post mortem,” Singh said, adding that relatives had been informed.Meanwhile, locals speculated the deaths could be linked to a property dispute, though police have not confirmed this and investigations are underway.
