Lucknow: As many as 701 students from SC/ST and OBC categories, studying at special coaching centres run by social welfare department, have been selected in various competitive examinations for govt jobs since 2017.Of these students, 48 were selected in examinations conducted by the Union and state public service commissions..The social welfare department is operating eight special coaching centres across the state, including one in Lucknow which is dedicated to girls. “This year, the govt allocated Rs 11.24 crore for this scheme which started in 2017-18. So far, 6,784 candidates have benefited from it,” joint director, social welfare department, PK Tripathi said. “During Covid-19 pandemic, the coaching was conducted online, resulting in the selection of 81 candidates in state upper subordinate services examination and as assistant forest conservators,” he said.Students from SC/ST and OBC communities, whose parents have an annual income of not more than Rs 6 lakh, can apply for these coaching classes. “Candidates are receiving expert guidance from senior officials in service and retired officers, in addition to experienced coaches. Like Abhudaya coaching, which is aimed at benefitting students from financially poor families, this coaching also provides training to SC/ST and OBC candidates and helps to prepare them for national-level competitive examinations,” the officer said.“Training centres offer high-level instruction where subject experts guide candidates using modern teaching techniques and latest curricula. Comprehensive coaching is provided for every stage, whether it’s the preliminary or main examination, or interview,” he added. “This scheme ensures that economic hardships or social barriers do not hinder anyone’s talent,” Tripathi said.
