Consider relocation of toll from Pachgaon towards Gurgaon, NHAI told

Gurgaon: Union minister Rao Inderjeet Singh on Friday directed NHAI and district officials to examine the possibility of relocating the under-construction Pachgaon toll plaza towards Gurgaon, after villagers objected that the current site would block their connectivity and jeopardise road safety.“Development becomes meaningful only when residents are participants in the process and benefit directly from it. Any infrastructure created here must also meet the region’s future requirements,” he said.Officials have been asked to carry out a detailed study before finalising any decision, taking into account “public convenience, road safety and the likely impact of upcoming industrial projects in the area”. According to NHAI officials, the authority would explore alternatives. “We would now explore the possibility of constructing the toll plaza around 1km ahead of the existing relocation site. The feasibility of shifting the toll plaza, availability of land and utilities will be examined before taking a final decision,” an official said. The meeting was attended by senior officers from the district administration, GMDA, NHAI, NCRTC, HRIDC, HSIIDC and other departments, along with representatives of Pachgaon. During the meeting, residents pointed out that the ongoing construction would sever their direct link to the highway as well as the Pachgaon–Jamalpur road, forcing them to take longer detours. Residents added that the temporary diversion created by NHAI was unsafe and raised the chances of accidents. To address these problems, the villagers demanded that a flyover or underpass be built at the site. With NHAI now working from scratch to find another location, commuters are unlikely to get any relief soon.
